Bowel Care is an important part of the complex care services provided at Aeon Nursing. It addresses the health needs of people who experience difficulties with their digestive system, such as constipation or diarrhoea. Bowel Care involves assisting those who find it difficult to independently manage their bowel habits. This includes helping them to develop strategies for managing and controlling their condition, through help with activities such as defecation, urination, and other behaviours associated with digestion.
Patients who are unable to control their bowel movements may experience a range of difficulties such as constipation, diarrhoea, incontinence or leakage of faeces, painful bowel movements or abdominal discomfort. People living with long-term conditions such as spinal cord injury or multiple sclerosis may also require support with Bowel Care.
Aeon Nursing provides tailored solutions for each individual’s Bowel Care needs and goals. Our approach focuses on identifying the individual’s needs and working together to develop a plan that addresses these needs. We provide education about the process of digestion and how this might be impacted by medications, diet and lifestyle; we also provide psychological support and guidance to ensure that individuals have access to resources and information which will enable them to maintain an optimum level of health.
We offer a holistic approach that considers both physical aspects of Bowel Care (i.e. nutrition, support for independence) as well as psychological concerns (i.e. adjusting attitudes towards body image).
